The mechanical types of water flow meters work by measuring the speed of water flowing through the pipe that causes a piston or turbine to rotate. The meters typically contain two ultrasonic transducers with one acting as the transmitter and the other as the receiver. The volumetric flow rate of the water is proportional to the rotational speed of the blades. Domestic water meters comes in three different models including electromagnetic mechanical insert and ultrasonic.
